The Home of Early Watercolours

Why This Site Exists

Australia was claimed for Britain by Capt. James Cook in 1770, as a member of the British Empire and was first used from 1788 as a penal colony.

As the transport of convicts decreased, so the number of immigrants began to increase.  These people brought with them, not only their goods and chattels, but also beautiful small watercolour pictures to remind them of life in the "Old Dart".  Many of these paintings have survived from the 1700's to the present day.

This collection has been preserved - cleaned, reframed and reglazed where necessary, and fitted with new acid-free matt boards, tapes and mounts to protect them from "foxing".  They are all between 80 and 300 years old.

Today their rarity and individual beauty places them outside the common commercial mass production of the recent past.  Their rarity must lead to increasing value as time passes and fewer and fewer appear on the open market.

YesterGallery is now also open at Mittagong Antiques Centre
