JOHN H
GLOVER (1767
- 1849)
"Cattle Crossing 1829" verso
Image - 265 x 425mm. Condition Excellent.
The colour is rather sombre but at this time Glover was
experimenting with different pigments. In November
2001 and 2002 two Glover oils (post 1831) were sold at
an auction in Melbourne, Australia for A$1,700,000 and
A$1,800,000 respectively, at the time the 4th highest
price for an Australian painting. Glover did not
sign his watercolours as he considered them inferior to
his oils, but they are easily recognised.

WILLIAM GAWIN HERDMAN (1805 - 1882)
"Everton Toffee House, Netherfield Road, Everton,
Liverpool, showing the old Compound 1878"
Image 170 x 290mm. Condition Excellent.
I visited the site in 2004. A photo and details of
the artist come with the painting. The brick
"building" with the conical roof is still
there. All the other buildings were flattened
during WWII and replaced with a park. The conical
building is the emblem worn by the Everton Soccer
(football) Club and they are still today called
"The Toffees". A fascinating look at the
past. The frame is original.
