Watercolours from the
18th, 19th and 20th Centuries |
|
|
| The watercolour
paintings of the past 300 years are not only fascinating because
of what they record, but absolutely beautiful. They will
add quality, value and ambience to almost any home.
But, you say, there are very
few available on the open market. Why? Well, having
been painted, up to 300 years ago most are already in private
hands. As these were in mine and could be in yours.
A collection of good quality
original early watercolours is better than money in the bank. |
 |
| Does
your art collection contain any? No? It
should. This is the time for you to acquire some of these
beautiful and unique artworks, before other collectors worldwide
stumble across this website. The smaller the number
available. the more their value will increase in the
future. Remember - these artists are long gone and
there are no new 18th and 19th century watercolourists. |

What
Is A Watercolour? |
| Watercolours
are unique and individual original paintings, not
mass-produced commercial reproductions. BUY ONE - IT IS
YOURS AND NO ONE ELSE'S. They are all real -
handpainted from life. Pictures of the people and
landscapes of the 18th and 19th centuries, from a time
before photography, when the only way of recording the landscape
and its occupants was with paint. They were painted on art
paper using water soluble colours of great translucency, which
dried quickly, so unlike oils there was little time to stir the
colours. And because pen and pencil drawings were used as
a base, much fine detail is shown. |
|
|
What
Is Their Condition? |
| Considering
their age (up to 300 years), they are in superb condition,
almost all having been taken apart and checked. The
backing, tape and matt-boards have been replaced with acid-free
to prevent "foxing". Damaged frames and glass
have been replaced where necessary. But, and I
stress but, the paintings themselves have not been retouched
at all, and are still "Original". Even
after 300 years the great majority look as if they have only
recently been painted. |
|
|
How
Much Are They? |
| The
prices have come via the internet, English Gallery and auction
sources, Australian art auction records and, of course, personal
experience. There are, no commercial art galleries in
Australia showing and selling predominantly early English or
Australian watercolours. So you won't find any in your
local art shop. My whole collection was purchased, one or
two at a time, in Australia, between 1965 and today at art
auctions, antique auctions, deceased estates, house contents
auctions, antique shops, 'junque' shops and second-hand
shops. Many were purchased privately.
Prices are also determined by
supply and demand. The number of these early paintings
available is tiny. My collection is not endless and will
not be available for ever. So don't wait until they are
all in someone else's collection. The prices are still
very reasonable. Buy now, while they are still
available. Don't leave it too
late! |
